Ok, In light of my full schedule I am going to take a couple week hiatus on writing lessons. Then Ryan, Justin, and I and any other volunteers will knock out a few at a time. For now... and the next 2 or 3 weeks, stay tuned, we will be repeating old lessons from the show me Jesus. They are pretty self explanatory and come with most things you need. But to be sure I will have it all set up for you on Sunday. Thanks for your flexibility.... I know it is a lot to ask.

Church Lesson 4
1 John 5:1-5

Learning objectives: The things that we want the kids to understand when they go home are: 1. Everyone who has asked Jesus into their hearts and loves and trusts him is a part of the church.


Check in Activity (to be done 9:35ish or 11:35ish): First have the kids all stand up and start with warm ups, for example, put both hands in the air, put your hands over your eyes, stand on one foot, jump up and down, stick out your tongue, hug your friend, etc. Once everyone is warmed up, teach them the song "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes." (Let me know if you don't know it)

Tell them that the Bible says that we are the church and our bodies are the temple of God. This means our head and shoulders,knees and toes are Jesus' church.

Sing the song together this way: Head and shoulder knees and toes ¬ knees and toes. Head and shoulders knees and toes ¬ knee's and toes. Jesus lives inside my heart (point to heart). I am the church of God ¬ church of God (make steeple above head). (Sing through this several times so that the kids can begin to understand the song.)
Something else to try would be to make the theme of the week, CHURCH, the secret word of the week and have the kids do something like yell, laugh, put their hands up, make a steeple out of their hands and above their heads, pick their nose, etc., every time they hear you say the secret word. This will require a little help from the volunteers; the kids will be slow to remember unless the volunteers help them. However, once they get the hang of the game, it will help them to listen more intently as they will want to hear the secret word and be the first to do the chosen action or sound.
Lesson warm up: Set up a large brown paper cross (I will have one upstairs for you). There are a couple ways to do this. If it is sunny you can take them out to the yard next door. Pin the cross on the fence and set up 5 or 6 chairs. Or tape the cross on the wall in the class room. Have them walk across the chairs toward the cross. If you are in the classroom you can do this with the tables. Just please be sure to hold any hands that may be unsure about crossing the cross on their own. Explain to the kids that when they are standing in front of the cross, they are not a Christian, Then set up a chair or table on the other side of the cross. Explain when they pass to that table, when they love, trust, believe and ask Jesus into their hearts, they become a Christian. Once the kids are on the other side of the cross, tell them that that is the Church box and tell them that as soon as they have asked Jesus into their hearts and have crossed the cross, they become part of the church. I will help set this up for you if my explanation is confusing... or please email me or call if you need to.
**Because the story is short short, allow the kids time to go a across the cross several times. cross Be sure to go over the steps (pre pre-Christian, going over the cross, part of the church) each time the they go across to the cross.

For the Children: Raise your hand if you think Jesus is God's Son?...... Raise your hand if you think Jesus is God?..... Did you know that this is what is means to be a Christian. If we are a Christian, God is also our father and we Love Jesus. We love Jesus because he is the Son of God. But this means I love you... Because you are Sons and Daughters of God. And I love the people downstairs, because they are Son's and daughters of God.... I even love all the Christians around the world...why?.... because they are Son's and Daughters of God. When somebody is a Christian we know they love God and God's Son and follow God's commandments. Who knows what a commandment is?.... A commandment is th e rules God has for us. Just like when we love our parents we follow the rules that they have and obey them... We do the same for God. Those rules are there to keep us safe. God makes them because He loves us. They are not meant to keep us from having any fun or to be work, but to protect us. If we love God and are a Christian... then we know that Sin is wrong. We have Faith. Who knows what faith is?... believing in something we cannot see. We have Faith that God and Jesus love us and are protecting us and We can talk to them anytime and ask them to Guide us and keep us safe in the world.

Jesus came to earth and lived here with us. He died on the cross for our sins so that we could one day be able to love God and go to heaven. The only way to go to Heaven and be a Christian is to Love God and believe that Jesus is his

Son.

Lesson warm up (After worship time):
Draw two families of stick people on the white board, one at the top and one at the
bottom. On the top, ask the kids who the different people are in the family and who
they are in their family. For example, ask one of the kids what their sister or brother's
name is. You may want to write under the stick people the names of your father,
mother, sister and brother making sure to ask the kids who has brothers and sisters,
are they older or younger, etc. On the bottom of the white board, draw another stick
family and tell the kids that the church is a family as well. Tell the kids that everyone
who has ever asked Jesus into their heart and trusted him is a part of this family. Also
tell the kids that like Jesus is the head of the church, he is also the head of the family
and we are all brothers and sisters. Bring up 4-6 kids (with a brother and sister if
possible) and ask the kids if they are brother and sister. If they are, tell everyone that
they have the same dad and mom. If they are not, tell the kids that if they both have
asked Jesus into their heart that they are brother and sister because they both belong
to the church family and they are brother and sister through Jesus. If they are part of
the church family, that means you, because you are older, should be treated as a
father/mother, and the people of the church are one big family. Point to the kids and
tell them that this means they can all be part of the same family. They can all be
brothers and sisters through Jesus. (Please use as many kids as you can in the
demonstration so that the kids don't get bored or disconnected from the lesson. You
will also want to move through this fairly quickly.)

As an activity, you may try this:
Have all of the kids stand up and explain to them that you are going to say, Find a
brother,- Find a sister-, or Find a father/mother,- and when you say this, they must
find a brother, sister or a father/mother (teacher or assistant) and hold their hand. If the
kids get it, may challenge them to find a brother and a sister, or two brothers or sisters,
or a sister and a mother, etc. If this doesn't work, move quickly to the next part.

For the Children:

Today we will be learning a story about Paul from the new testament of the bible. Paul and Silas were two followers of Jesus. The were put in Jail because they told others about Jesus and did not hide what they believed to be true. Well late late at night in jail, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to the Lord. And all the other prisoners in the jail were listening to them, when suddenly there was a big earthquake. And every thing at the jail was shaking and shaking. It shook so hard that the chains that kept the door locked so the prisoners could not come free , broke. And the doors were opened.

Well the guard at the jail was sleeping, when the shaking happened he woke up. He saw the doors open, and he pulled out his sword and was going to hurt himself, he knew he would be in a lot of trouble. He thought all of the prisoners had run away.

But right as the guard drew his sword, Paul Yelled... No Wait! Stop! Don't hurt yourself. All of the prisoners are still here.

The Guard turned on the lights and saw Paul and Silas. He knew they had been telling the truth about Jesus. He asked them what he can do to l0ve Jesus.

Paul and Silas told him that his whole house would be saved if he believed in the Lord Jesus.
They began teaching him the Bible. The guard took Paul and Silas away from the Jail... to his very own house. He washed all the wounds they got while being beaten up in prison. And the the guard and the rest of his household got baptized immediately.

Then they all went back to his house and had a big party with lots of good food. And celebrated believing in Jesus.

Questions:

• Why do you think the guard was so happy to see Paul and Silas when he woke up?... Because they didn't run away.
• Is the guard in Paul's family?...no
• Is the guard in Paul's Church family?... yes
• Are they brothers? .... yes
• Is the guards family in Paul and Silas' family, now? ...Yes

April 6 Lesson: 1st: Ryan and Zach 2nd: Lyndsey and Jesse

* Two quick notes.

I need a couple people to take turns helping me write these lessons. I am back in school full time and working and am stretched a little thin. I will still put activities and crafts together. I just need you to possibly take the weeks verse and rewrite them in a format our preschoolers will understand. Please let me know if you can help. My hope is to get 3 people to rotate...weekly, or even take on that theme for the month. I am hoping to keep the feel of consistency.

and also a heads up 1st service is getting very low numbers so far. Last 2 weeks had 2 kids. So here is what I think we should do, if those kids are going to be upstairs 2 services... you don't need to do the lesson. If not then can we please try to give them the lesson. Inviting the younger kids in during the lesson does not work, so only do that if they can sit... or you are not giving it. We pray more kids come, or more teachers, so that it balances out again. This said 2ND service is getting all the kids. So be prepared for up to 15 kids or so. There is now a mat in there so they can sit on the Bible mat... instead of the Bible blanket, but please have them eat at tables to keep it clean. ... Thanks.... Now on to the lesson.

Lesson warm up (After worship time): Today you will be playing a mock game of Ring Around the Rosy.Have all the kids get into a circle and hold hands. Tell the kids that Jesus is the vine and we are the branches, and all of the branches must be connected to Jesus in order to bear good fruit. That means that if I am the vine and you are the branches, everyone must be touching someone else who must be touching me. Have one of you put your hands down so that they are not touching anyone and show the kids that when they are not connected to anyone, they are not connected to the vine and cannot bear good fruit. Then play a round of Ring Around the Vine* by singing:
Ring around the vine. Jesus is the vine. Connected, connected (or ashes, ashes), we all fall down!
Tell the kids that when they fall onto the floor, they want to be touching someone else so that they are connected to the vine. If one of the kids is not touching someone else, point out that they are not touching another person so they cannot bear good fruit (try to make it fun and silly.) Play the game two, three or four times. Even if they don't get it completely, the kids will have fun playing the game.

This should get the wiggles out and they should be able to sit for the lesson.

For the Children:

We have talked about a vine. What is a vine? ... (allow them to answer) Who is the vine?... Jesus. So if Jesus is the vine?... he holds us together. Do you know what God our father does? ... He is like the Gardener. He Takes care of us.

There are some branches on trees that aren't healthy. They cannot grow any fruit. Do you know what is done with those branches? They are pruned, or cut off so that healthy branches can grow. This is what God does for us. If something isn't healthy or is not working, God helps us get rid of it, so we can grow fruit. .

Jesus told us that we need to follow Him. The only we can be healthy branched is if we hold on to the vine. Who is the vine again? ... Jesus. Jesus promises if we hold on to Him we will have healthy fruit.

Jesus said that if we are his disciples, or followers, we will bear much fruit. And did you know that Jesus loves us as much as God love Jesus... so he wants us to follow him.
He wants us to be full of Joy.

Lesson warm up:
Select two of the kids making one represent the church and then next just a normal
person. Tell the kids that the church is a body of believers
and everyone makes up different part of the body (point to different parts of the body
and ask the kids what each part is for example, arm, leg, head, etc. As the kids look at
the two different outlines point at the head and ask:

Q: Does (the Child) really need a head? Why?
A: Yes, (the Child) needs a head because his head makes the rest of his body work.

Q: If the church is a body, who do you think is the head?
A: Jesus, is the head of the church.

Q: Does (The child) need arms? Why?
A: So he can pick things up, throw things, and work.

Q: Who would be the arm of a church?
A: Maybe a teacher, greeter, pastor, etc.

Just as a body needs each part to do things, the church is a body and we all make up
a part of the church body. What part of the church body would you like to be?
You can continue to go with this line of questioning, or you can talk to a few people like
the service lead, security guard, assistants, check-in person, greeter, etc. and have
them come in and tell the kids what they do and why they are a part of the church
body.

For The Children:

There are many different jobs at our church. What are some of the different things people do? ... (Pastor, music, Sunday school teachers... feel free to tell the children about all the different jobs... make sure to include everything from set up, to making coffee, to sound, to budget) Do you think there are jobs more important than others? ... they may say pastor... Lets go back to to our volunteer ( bring up the child that represented the church) Would the child be able to hear if she had no ears? Can an eye walk? Can a foot play the guitar? There are many important things Pastor Chris does. He is very important to our church. But who controls his microphone? The sound people are important... but do they play the music? And Pat is important to the music, but does he teach Sunday school? And if I am up here teaching you about Jesus, who is down stairs greeting the new people. And when Mark is greeting the new people who come to our building who is paying for the building we are using. And when we all give our money to pay for our church, who is counting that money? There are lots of important jobs many people do at our church. Why do these people want to serve how they do? Who is the most important? JESUS. Jesus is the head of our church. Jesus is the reason we have church. So even though there are many jobs at the church all of these jobs are done in one church body. And just like (the child's name) has lot of different important parts of their body that do important things. The church is the same. One body for Jesus, with lots of different parts that have different jobs.

Craft: no craft really. I don't think you will have time. But if you do have the children draw a church.

A couple 2nd service notes

With the 2 services in effect Easter Sunday I would just like to let the new teachers in on what is happening with this blog. The first few posts of this blog go over regular Sunday schedules and procedures, as well as our discipline guidelines.

I attempt, and often fail, to get lessons up as early as possible. I will email you to let you know they are posted. For the most part I provide you with everything including the story you will need to be a success. Generally if there is something I need from you or need you to bring I will let you know in the lesson. For example... this next lesson I will have everything there ready to go.

Susan I am just assuming you will be the main teacher.

Easter Lesson 1
The Easter Story

Monthly Bible Verse: John 14:6 ƒI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes
to the Father except through me.-

Weekly Focus: Jesus died on the cross for our sin. Jesus rose from the dead, and the
tomb is empty.

What the kids should have learned by the end of the lesson
1. Jesus died on the cross for our sin.
2. Jesus rose from the dead.
3. The tomb is empty.


Lesson warm up:
Hide the following pictures in Eggs in the room (there are empty eggs in the cupboard):
1. Donkey
2. Silver Coins
3. Cup
4. Praying Hands
5. Whip
6. Crown of Thorns
7. Cross
8. Dice
9. Spear
10. Linen
11. Stone
12. Empty Egg
(If you have more than 12 Children hide more than one of the picture. Or you can hide more anyway if you want the kids to find more than one. If it is a sunny day take the kids to the yard of the building next door for the hunt. This way you could hide the eggs early. You could color coordinate the eggs if that helps you remember which picture is in which egg.


LESSON:
This is sort of a strange few weeks for the lessons. They all sort of fell together the Jesus lessons and the Easter lesson and the obedience lesson. So much of this is review for the kids. So that said we will be just doing the egg lesson. But we have added to it. As there are a lot of different symbols represented you will need to move quickly through each one and involve the children to keep their attention. I am including what each one represents and a verse for your reference. Thanks.


Egg 1 ¬Donkey
Just before the day we know as Easter, Jesus and his disciples were coming to
Jerusalem. Jesus told two of his disciples to go ahead of them and they would find a
donkey and her colt tied up. He told them to bring them back to him and Jesus rode
the donkey into Jerusalem.

Matthew 21:1-3: 1When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,2saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3"If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them.

Egg 2 ¬ Silver Coins
Tell the kids that the Jewish leaders wanted to get rid of Jesus. He was not the kind of
Messiah (Son of God) they wanted. They were looking for God to send a warrior-king ¬someone riding a horse, not a donkey who would conquer the Roman Empire that
ruled over the Jews. Instead of a conquering, warrior-king, Jesus came as a man ¬
peaceful, humble, and full of God«s love. He came to earth to show us this love, and
teach us that true life and goodness only come from our Father in heaven. We
experience the best of God«s goodness for us when God comes into our lives,
changes our hearts, and gives us the ability to follow Jesus.

Matthew 26:14-16: 14Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests15and said, "What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?" And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him.16From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.

Egg 3 ¬ Passover Cup
Have you ever seen people in church take communion? They eat the bread and drink
the wine, don't they? Christians do this all to remember that Jesus died on the cross
for their sins that separate them from God, especially his blood that was poured out for
them to give them eternal life with Jesus. Jesus served communion to his disciples
before he died on the cross for our sins.

Matthew 26:27-28: 27And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you;28for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.

Egg 4 ¬Praying Hands
After having communion/bread and wine with his disciples, Jesus went to a place
called the Garden of Gethsemane to pray to his Father, God, because he knew people
were coming to take him to the cross to crucify him.

Mark 14:32-34 32They came to a place named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, "Sit here until I have prayed."33And He took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be very distressed and troubled.34And He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch."

Egg 5 ¬Leather Whip
Tell the kids that Pilate put Jesus to death. But before he did, he told his soldiers to
whip him. At any time, Jesus, the Son of God, could have stopped the trial, the
whipping, and even his death. But he wanted to do the will of his Father. And so he did
nothing and said nothing to defend himself.

John 19:1-31Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him. 2And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him; 3 and they began to come up to Him and say, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and to give Him slaps in the face.

Egg 6 ¬Crown of Thorns
Tell the kids that the Roman guards did not love God. They rejected Jesus as God.
They teased, taunted, hit, and beat him. They made a crown out of sharp thorns, put it
on Jesus« head, knelt before him, and teased him by saying, ƒHail, King of the Jews,-
even though they didn't believe he was a king.

Egg 7 ¬ Cross of Nails
Jesus died on the cross for our sins. We all sin when we lie, cheat, steal, or disobey our
parents. But Jesus was perfect and never sinned, so he was the only one who could
die to take our sins away.

John 19:16-18: 16So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified.17They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.18There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.

Egg 8 ¬Dice
After Jesus died on the cross, the soldiers rolled dice to see who got the clothes he
was wearing. Tell the kids that Jesus shows us what we are to do when others wrong
us. Before he died, Jesus actually asked for forgiveness from his Father for the
soldiers who were about to crucify Him.

John 19:24 24So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; this was to fulfill the Scripture: "THEY DIVIDED MY OUTER GARMENTS AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CAST LOTS."

Egg 9 ¬ Spear
Tell the kids that because the soldiers had to make absolutely sure He was dead, they
pierced him in the side with a spear. When they did, out came water and blood. This
was the proof they needed to show that Jesus had died. And it«s proof to us as well.
The water and blood mixture that poured out from the spear wound in Jesus« side
makes it absolutely clear that Jesus did really die.

John 19:33-34: 33but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.34But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

Egg 10 ¬Linen
After Jesus died on the cross for our sins he was wrapped in linen (like sheets) and
was buried in a tomb (a big hole in the rocks).

Matthew 27:59-61: 59And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.61And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave.

Egg 11 ¬ Stone
After Jesus had been wrapped in the linen, he was placed in the tomb and a HUGE
stone was rolled in front of the tomb so that nobody could steal Jesus« body from the
tomb. Some people were afraid that Jesus would do what he said and raise from the
dead in three days. They were so afraid that they even put a soldier in front of the rock
and sealed it so nobody could get in.

Matthew 27:59-61: 59And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.61And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave.

Egg 12 ¬Leave Egg Empty
On Easter Sunday, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb, but they
found that the tomb was empty. An angel who was there told them that nobody stole
Jesus body; he had raised from the dead. When Jesus rose from the dead, he
overcame sin, Satan and death, which means that sin, Satan and death no longer have
any power over Jesus or anyone who believes in Jesus.
The tomb was empty, Jesus has risen!!!!

Matthew 28:5-7: 5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.6"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.7"Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you."

Craft: Easter Books: I will print off the books with this story in it. Let the kids cut out a picture of the symbol that goes with each explanation and glue it on the blank page next to it. They can color it if there is time.
