March 30 Lesson 1st: Justin and Jessica 2nd: Susan and Kelsea

Church Lesson 1
1 Corinthians 12:12-20

Monthly Bible Verse: Colossians 1:18a And he [Jesus] is the head of the body, the
church.
Monthly Theme: The Church
Weekly Focus: Jesus is the head of the body, which is the church.
Weekly Story: 1 Corinthians 12:12-20 ƒOne body, many parts.

Learning objectives: The things we want the kids to understand when they go home
are:
1. Jesus is the head of the body, the church.
2. If we believe in Jesus we are part of the body.

Lesson warm up:
Select two of the kids making one represent the church and then next just a normal
person. Tell the kids that the church is a body of believers
and everyone makes up different part of the body (point to different parts of the body
and ask the kids what each part is for example, arm, leg, head, etc. As the kids look at
the two different outlines point at the head and ask:

Q: Does (the Child) really need a head? Why?
A: Yes, (the Child) needs a head because his head makes the rest of his body work.

Q: If the church is a body, who do you think is the head?
A: Jesus, is the head of the church.

Q: Does (The child) need arms? Why?
A: So he can pick things up, throw things, and work.

Q: Who would be the arm of a church?
A: Maybe a teacher, greeter, pastor, etc.

Just as a body needs each part to do things, the church is a body and we all make up
a part of the church body. What part of the church body would you like to be?
You can continue to go with this line of questioning, or you can talk to a few people like
the service lead, security guard, assistants, check-in person, greeter, etc. and have
them come in and tell the kids what they do and why they are a part of the church
body.

1 Corinthians 12:12-20

12For even ^(A)as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, ^(B)so also is Christ.

13For ^(C)by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether ^(D)Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to ^(E)drink of one Spirit.

There are many different jobs at our church. What are some of the different things people do? ... (Pastor, music, Sunday school teachers... feel free to tell the children about all the different jobs... make sure to include everything from set up, to making coffee, to sound, to budget) Do you think there are jobs more important than others? ... they may say pastor... Lets go back to to our volunteer ( bring up the child that represented the church) Would the child be able to hear if she had no ears? Can an eye walk? Can a foot play the guitar? There are many important things Pastor Chris does. He is very important to our church. But who controls his microphone? The sound people are important... but do they play the music? And Pat is important to the music, but does he teach Sunday school? And if I am up here teaching you about Jesus, who is down stairs greeting the new people. And when Mark is greeting the new people who come to our building who is paying for the building we are using. And when we all give our money to pay for our church, who is counting that money? There are lots of important jobs many people do at our church. Why do these people want to serve how they do? Who is the most important? JESUS. Jesus is the head of our church. Jesus is the reason we have church. So even though there are many jobs at the church all of these jobs are done in one church body. And just like (the child's name) has lot of different important parts of their body that do important things. The church is the same. One body for Jesus, with lots of different parts that have different jobs.

Craft: no craft really. I don't think you will have time. But if you do have the children draw a church.

A couple 2nd service notes

OK,
With the 2 services in effect Easter Sunday I would just like to let the new teachers in on what is happening with this blog. The first few posts of this blog go over regular Sunday schedules and procedures, as well as our discipline guidelines.

I attempt, and often fail, to get lessons up as early as possible. I will email you to let you know they are posted. For the most part I provide you with everything including the story you will need to be a success. Generally if there is something I need from you or need you to bring I will let you know in the lesson. For example... this next lesson I will have everything there ready to go.

Abby and Tanna, Ryan and Zach... can you guys decide between you how you will split up the teaching... thanks.
Susan I am just assuming you will be the main teacher.

My main goal for our class is consistency. The children learn better if we are all on the same page. If you have any questions or concerns please comment on the blog and I will get it. If it is private feel free to email me.

Thanks so much for giving of your time. Hopefully this is an easy transition. I am going to copy the schedule of teaching from Jeff on here. If there are any problems please feel free to let me or Jeff know as soon as you can.

Easter Lesson 1
The Easter Story

Monthly Bible Verse: John 14:6 ƒI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes
to the Father except through me.-
Monthly Theme: ƒEaster-
Weekly Focus: Jesus died on the cross for our sin. Jesus rose from the dead, and the
tomb is empty.
Weekly Story: Scriptures from Matthew, Mark and John

What the kids should have learned by the end of the lesson
1. Jesus died on the cross for our sin.
2. Jesus rose from the dead.
3. The tomb is empty.

Lesson warm up:
Hide the following pictures in Eggs in the room (there are empty eggs in the cupboard):
1. Donkey
2. Silver Coins
3. Cup
4. Praying Hands
5. Whip
6. Crown of Thorns
7. Cross
8. Dice
9. Spear
10. Linen
11. Stone
12. Empty Egg
(If you have more than 12 Children hide more than one of the picture. Or you can hide more anyway if you want the kids to find more than one. If it is a sunny day take the kids to the yard of the building next door for the hunt. This way you could hide the eggs early. You could color coordinate the eggs if that helps you remember which picture is in which egg.

LESSON:
This is sort of a strange few weeks for the lessons. They all sort of fell together the Jesus lessons and the Easter lesson and the obedience lesson. So much of this is review for the kids. So that said we will be just doing the egg lesson. But we have added to it. As there are a lot of different symbols represented you will need to move quickly through each one and involve the children to keep their attention. I am including what each one represents and a verse for your reference. Thanks.

Egg 1 ¬Donkey
Just before the day we know as Easter, Jesus and his disciples were coming to
Jerusalem. Jesus told two of his disciples to go ahead of them and they would find a
donkey and her colt tied up. He told them to bring them back to him and Jesus rode
the donkey into Jerusalem.

Matthew 21:1-3: 1When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,2saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3"If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them.

Egg 2 ¬ Silver Coins
Tell the kids that the Jewish leaders wanted to get rid of Jesus. He was not the kind of
Messiah (Son of God) they wanted. They were looking for God to send a warrior-king ¬someone riding a horse, not a donkey who would conquer the Roman Empire that
ruled over the Jews. Instead of a conquering, warrior-king, Jesus came as a man ¬
peaceful, humble, and full of God«s love. He came to earth to show us this love, and
teach us that true life and goodness only come from our Father in heaven. We
experience the best of God«s goodness for us when God comes into our lives,
changes our hearts, and gives us the ability to follow Jesus.

Matthew 26:14-16: 14Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests15and said, "What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?" And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him.16From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.

Egg 3 ¬ Passover Cup
Have you ever seen people in church take communion? They eat the bread and drink
the wine, don't they? Christians do this all to remember that Jesus died on the cross
for their sins that separate them from God, especially his blood that was poured out for
them to give them eternal life with Jesus. Jesus served communion to his disciples
before he died on the cross for our sins.

Matthew 26:27-28: 27And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you;28for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.

Egg 4 ¬Praying Hands
After having communion/bread and wine with his disciples, Jesus went to a place
called the Garden of Gethsemane to pray to his Father, God, because he knew people
were coming to take him to the cross to crucify him.

Mark 14:32-34 32They came to a place named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, "Sit here until I have prayed."33And He took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be very distressed and troubled.34And He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch."

Egg 5 ¬Leather Whip
Tell the kids that Pilate put Jesus to death. But before he did, he told his soldiers to
whip him. At any time, Jesus, the Son of God, could have stopped the trial, the
whipping, and even his death. But he wanted to do the will of his Father. And so he did
nothing and said nothing to defend himself.

John 19:1-31Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him. 2And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him; 3 and they began to come up to Him and say, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and to give Him slaps in the face.

Egg 6 ¬Crown of Thorns
Tell the kids that the Roman guards did not love God. They rejected Jesus as God.
They teased, taunted, hit, and beat him. They made a crown out of sharp thorns, put it
on Jesus« head, knelt before him, and teased him by saying, ƒHail, King of the Jews,-
even though they didn't believe he was a king.

John 19:1-31Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him. 2And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him; 3 and they began to come up to Him and say, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and to give Him slaps in the face.

Egg 7 ¬ Cross of Nails
Jesus died on the cross for our sins. We all sin when we lie, cheat, steal, or disobey our
parents. But Jesus was perfect and never sinned, so he was the only one who could
die to take our sins away.

John 19:16-18: 16So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified.17They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.18There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.

Egg 8 ¬Dice
After Jesus died on the cross, the soldiers rolled dice to see who got the clothes he
was wearing. Tell the kids that Jesus shows us what we are to do when others wrong
us. Before he died, Jesus actually asked for forgiveness from his Father for the
soldiers who were about to crucify Him.

John 19:24 24So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; this was to fulfill the Scripture: "THEY DIVIDED MY OUTER GARMENTS AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CAST LOTS."

Egg 9 ¬ Spear
Tell the kids that because the soldiers had to make absolutely sure He was dead, they
pierced him in the side with a spear. When they did, out came water and blood. This
was the proof they needed to show that Jesus had died. And it«s proof to us as well.
The water and blood mixture that poured out from the spear wound in Jesus« side
makes it absolutely clear that Jesus did really die.

John 19:33-34: 33but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.34But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

Egg 10 ¬Linen
After Jesus died on the cross for our sins he was wrapped in linen (like sheets) and
was buried in a tomb (a big hole in the rocks).

Matthew 27:59-61: 59And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.61And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave.

Egg 11 ¬ Stone
After Jesus had been wrapped in the linen, he was placed in the tomb and a HUGE
stone was rolled in front of the tomb so that nobody could steal Jesus« body from the
tomb. Some people were afraid that Jesus would do what he said and raise from the
dead in three days. They were so afraid that they even put a soldier in front of the rock
and sealed it so nobody could get in.

Matthew 27:59-61: 59And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.61And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave.

Egg 12 ¬Leave Egg Empty
On Easter Sunday, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb, but they
found that the tomb was empty. An angel who was there told them that nobody stole
Jesus body; he had raised from the dead. When Jesus rose from the dead, he
overcame sin, Satan and death, which means that sin, Satan and death no longer have
any power over Jesus or anyone who believes in Jesus.
The tomb was empty, Jesus has risen!!!!

Matthew 28:5-7: 5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.6"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.7"Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you."

Craft: Easter Books: I will print off the books with this story in it. Let the kids cut out a picture of the symbol that goes with each explanation and glue it on the blank page next to it. They can color it if there is time.

March 16th Lesson Taught by Ryan and Zach

Obedience Lesson 4

Matthew 28:1-10; 17-20
Monthly Bible Verse: 1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.*
Monthly Theme: Go and be obedient*
Weekly Focus: Jesus said ,Go and make disciples.*
Weekly Story: Matthew 28: 1-10; 17-20

Learning objectives: The things we want the kids to understand when they go home
are:
1. Jesus tells us to go and make disciples.
2. We need to be obedient like Noah, Abraham, and Moses and do what Jesus
asks us to do.

Check in activity: See the on going theme activity post right before this for your opening activity. You may also want to have a volunteer keep a rhythm with an instrument if you have one... you can easily make one by putting rice in a little jar or plastic storage container. You might want a couple and to have the children take turns.

Lesson warm up:
Hide the following pictures in Eggs in the room (there are empty eggs in the cupboard):
1. Cup
2. Praying hands
3. Cross
4. Linen
5. Rock
6. Empty

Tell the kids that there are 6 missing eggs and they need to be found (you will want to
hide the eggs in fairly hard to find places so that it takes some time for the kids to find
them). There can be more than one egg with the same picture in it so that the children all have a chance to find one. The eggs should be brought to you once they have been found. After they have
all been retrieved, open them in the order listed above, (maybe color coordinate them) assisted by the child who found
each. Ask the kids if they remember what they represent:
Cup (Matthew 26:27-28)
Jesus served communion to his disciples before he died on the cross for our sins.

Praying hands (Mark 14:32-34)

Ask the kids: Did Jesus disappear? Did he turn to dust? Did somebody steal his body?
Does anybody know what happened to Jesus body and why it wasn't in the tomb?

For The Children:
This will be a quick lesson for the kids as we have just gone over this a few weeks ago and will go over it again next week. Just remind the kids that after Jesus died he rose again and Saw his disciples. Remind them that Jesus instructed His disciples to go and make disciples of the nations , and we are instructed to too.

Obedience Lesson 3
Exodus 3:1-12

Weekly Focus: God told Moses, Go tell Pharaoh, 1Let My people go.«*
Weekly Story: Exodus 3:1-12

Learning objectives: The things we want the kids to understand when they go home
are:
1. God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let My people go.
2. Moses was obedient and did what God asked him to do.

Check in activity: See the on going theme activity post right before this for your opening activity. You may also want to have a volunteer keep a rhythm with an instrument if you have one... you can easily make one by putting rice in a little jar or plastic storage container. You might want a couple and to have the children take turns.

Lesson warm up:
Break the kids into groups, making sure each has an adult leader. Have the leader
explain to their kids that he or she are going to ask them to do something for him or
her. Separate the groups into different parts of the room so there is no confusion as to
who is in each group. The kids should stand by their leader and the leader should tell
them to GO and get something, do something, or perform a particular task for
him/her. Each request should start with a GO. For example, the adult leader can
request, GO get me a crayon,GO run around the room,GO find me a piece of
paper,GO crawl under the table,GO make a funny face, etc. In each request you
may also want to give a location, for example, GO to the door and knock three times.
Once each kid has been able to do at least two requests, have them sit down and tell
them that they did a great job. Ask some of the kids what their leader asked them to
do. Then tell them that today we are going to learn about a time that God told Moses to
GO and do something for Him. Just like your leaders told you to GO and do something
for them.

Exodus 3

The Burning Bush

1Now Moses was pasturing the flock of ^(A)Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to ^(B)Horeb, the ^(C)mountain of God.

2^(D)The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a ^(E)bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.

3So Moses said, "^(F)I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up."

4When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, ^(G)God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."

5Then He said, "Do not come near here; ^(H)remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."

6He said also, "^(I)I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob " ^(J)Then Moses hid his face, for he was ^(K)afraid to look at God.

7The LORD said, "I have surely ^(L)seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings.

The Mission of Moses

10"Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, ^(Q)so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt."

11But Moses said to God, "^(R)Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"

12And He said, "Certainly ^(S)I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: ^(T)when you have brought the people out of Egypt, ^(U)you shall worship God at this mountain."

For The Children:

One day Moses was working with his father in law's flock of sheep. When he was on the side of a mountain he saw something amazing. There was a Bush. It was on fire. Now what happens when something normally catches on fire? ... it would burn up. Well this was a special bush. It would not burn up.

Now Moses was amazed by this. He stopped what he was doing and stared at the bush. He wondered why it was not burning. When God saw that Moses had stopped to look at the bush God called to him. He said Moses Moses. Ans Moses said here I am!!

God told Moses not to come any closer. He told moses to take off his sandals. Because he was standing in a very special holy place.

God told Moses.... I am God. I am your father. I am the father of Abraham ... who went to a place he did not know. I am the God of everyone.

God told Moses that he saw his people who were very sad in Egypt. They were being beaten and made slaves. They were crying. So God told moses that God came to save them . He had a place for them to live. A beautiful place. With lots or room and food to eat. God told Moses that he was to go to Egypt and see the Pharoh... or the King... and tell him to let his people go. Then God will bring his people away rom Egypt.

But Moses was worried. Why me? I am shy, he said... Surely you have the wrong man.

But God said .. no your are the one who will go. And I will be with you the whole time.

And you know what? Moses was obedient. He did just as the Lord instructed. And the Lord kept his promise and protected his people.

Questions:

What did God tell Moses to do? ..... Let my people go.

Did Moses obey?.... yes

Why?.... because Moses was obedient.

Did God protect Moses?... Yes

What does obediant mean?.... To do what we are told

Are you obediant?....

What can we do to be obediant?
